Have you ever wondered how a small team supports the infrastructure needed to host thousands of websites? Our software engineers build systems that automate services at scale. Using new technologies like custom Kubernetes controllers and cloud functions, we are able to automate the deployment, enhancement, and maintenance of our Kubernetes platform. The team is continuously looking for ways to make our services more scalable, reliable, and resilient. Learning from past decisions and striving to get better every day.
Day to day responsibilities will include:
- Building and running a robust cloud-based infrastructure to power our growing application platforms
- Evaluating and optimizing the architecture of cloud-based systems and services for high availability, scalability, and high performance
- Using industry best practices, methodologies, and state-of-the-art solutions in the process of a continuous improvement of WP Engine’s products and services
- Reducing toil by automating repetitive and error-prone tasks
- Enhancing and fine-tuning observability services to aid engineering and support efforts
- Optimizing CI/CD pipelines for performance, coverage, and reliability
- Diving into specific technology roadblocks and uncovering how we can make our platform more performant, resilient, and reliable
Your Skills, Expertise, and Passion
What’s essential in this role?
- Passionate about SRE principles and cloud computing!
- Hands-on experience working with at least one of the following cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, Kubernetes
- Working knowledge of web server components: Linux, Varnish, Apache, Nginx, MySQL, and PHP
- Experience in building and running production-ready systems and applications at scale
- Working experience with one or more of the following tools: Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, GitHub, Jenkins
- Proficient in Python programming and shell scripting
- Good understanding of TCP/IP networking, High-Availability, SSL/TLS certificates, and cloud infrastructure security
You will get bonus points for:
- Experience working in Agile engineering teams
- Programming in Go
- TICK Stack, Grafana, Datadog, Google Data Studio
- Shared/network storage technologies
- Serverless computing
- Computer Science Degree or equivalent experience
